1. OUR STORY
THE PROJECT’S ORIGINS
How was the Un Coeur pour l’Afrique association founded?
AN ILLNESS
Ten years ago, Ludovic Chetail was diagnosed with
a severe heart condition that could worsen at any time. After the initial shock of
the diagnosis, Ludovic, aided by a competent medical team and with
the support of those close to him, learned to redefine his priorities and, above all,
to adapt his daily life to his illness.
this ordeal and can now continue pursuing both of his
Thanks to his determination and appropriate medical care, he overcame
passions: football and enduro riding.
SHARING
Over the months, Ludovic became aware of how fortunate he was to have
benefited, particularly from prompt care as soon as the first
symptoms and from then on wanted to share it with those who had not
this opportunity. In these African countries, healthcare problems
linked to the shortage of healthcare are widespread. Over the course of their conversations, a
A slightly crazy project began to take shape in his mind.
A REALIZATION
This realization led him to conceive a slightly crazy project
with the support of his friend Carlos ALVES: to put their passion for
using enduro riding to support a humanitarian cause by covering more than 10,000
km by motorcycle, without support, to reach Benin from Clermont-
Ferrand.
A GOAL
Raise funds to finance the transfer, accommodation, and surgery
in Clermont-Ferrand, children from Africa suffering from
severe heart conditions that cannot be treated in their home countries.
2. OUR MAIN PARTNER
Today, Un coeur pour l’Afrique has entered into a partnership with the association L’Auvergne pour un enfant!
Over 20 years, L’Auvergne pour un enfant, an association chaired by Professor Jean-René LUSSON, has welcomed and treated 184 children from 22 countries suffering from various infections, mainly
mostly cardiac surgeries. Fifty-two host families contributed.
3. THE ASSOCIATION’S OBJECTIVES
Un Coeur pour l’Afrique now represents an additional link in this humanitarian chain, giving children with congenital heart defects a chance to access appropriate care in France. The challenge for the association and our riders?
- +10,000 km by motorcycle without support
- 30 days - 3 riders
- 11 countries crossed
- on 600 Transalps and 700 Teneres
➡ MEET healthcare professionals to identify local needs as accurately as possible—needs that are very different from what one might imagine—and children who have already undergone surgery, to share their
testimony.
➡ TAKE ON A SPORTING CHALLENGE to show that, with appropriate care, it is possible to live normally with a disease and even take part in extreme sports.

4. THE RIDERS
LUDOVIC CHETAIL
Ludovic, better known by the nickname Loulou, is a 49-year-old logistics manager in everyday life. A big-hearted, whole-hearted Auvergnat, he is deeply involved in everything he
undertakes. His involvement in the non-profit sector and in the sporting worlds of football and enduro is proof of this. A loyal friend, Ludovic enjoys sharing his passions and generosity with his friends. Behind this strong personality lies a sensitive and endearing man who loves to live life to the fullest. There is no doubt that he will devote all his energy to successfully completing his project.
CARLOS ALVES
Carlos, originally from Portugal, arrived in France 20 years ago. Self-taught, he has forged his own path and succeeded in life. Beneath this maintenance technician lies a strong-minded character who knows how to defend his ideas. Patient, generous, and thoughtful, Carlos adapts to any situation. His unfailing perseverance leads him to successfully carry out
all his projects. He will be a driving force in this humanitarian and sporting challenge.
MAX WAX
Max, a store manager, regularly swaps his sales suit for an adventurer’s attire. Passionate about travel and discovery, what particularly drives him is exploring new horizons and unknown lands, meeting people, offering them a helping hand, and sharing their daily lives with simplicity and humility.
As a great lover of Africa, Max has covered thousands of kilometres on his motorcycle and intends to continue his travels across the continent. At the beginning of 2022, Max joined the Un Cœur pour l’Afrique association and, for a good cause, made an exception to his motto, “solitary and supportive adventure”—a new challenge for someone who travels alone with his maps and compass. So, at the beginning of 2023, he set course for Benin with Loulou and Carlos!
