Electrolyte Capsules and Tablets: Guide
Why choose capsules or tablets?
They fit in a pocket, don’t spill, and can be taken without preparing a special drink. They’re mainly used to provide electrolytes or supplement a plan based on gels and water.
How do you take electrolyte capsules?
Swallow them with water, following the brand’s dosage instructions (often one capsule every 30 to 60 minutes during exertion in hot conditions). Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Effervescent tablets, how do you use them?
A tablet dissolves in 500 ml of water. You get a lightly salted drink, with or without flavoring, to sip throughout your workout.
Do tablets replace an isotonic drink?
Not entirely: they mainly provide minerals, with few or no carbohydrates. So you need to supplement them with gels, bars, or an energy drink.
Are they suitable for trail and ultra?
Yes, their compact size makes them ideal companions for long outings where you carry all your gear.
Are there any contraindications?
If you have high blood pressure, kidney problems, or are on a low-sodium diet, consult a doctor before taking sodium supplements.
