HIGH FRUCTOSE ENERGY DRINK provides 87 g of carbohydrates and 500 mg of sodium per serving, from maltodextrin and fructose, in a 10:8 ratio.

This formula is based on “multiple transportable carbohydrates”; studies* have also shown that, during prolonged exercise, consuming carbohydrates absorbed in the intestine by various transporters is the only way to increase the assimilation and oxidation rate of exogenous carbohydrates beyond 60 g/hour.*

For this purpose, research confirms that the ideal approach is to combine different sources of carbohydrates. For our part, we chose maltodextrin, which makes it possible to control molecular weight/osmolarity, on the one hand, and fructose, of course, on the other.

MALTODEXTRIN: 

• It is absorbed in the intestine by the SLGT1 cotransporter and is converted into glucose to enter the cells and provide them with energy more quickly.
• Maltodextrin has a high glycemic index, rapidly increases blood glucose, and releases energy instantly.
• Rapid gastric emptying due to its high molecular weight and low osmolarity, which promotes digestion and reduces gastrointestinal side effects.

FRUCTOSE: 

• It is absorbed in the intestine with the help of GLUT5 transporters, which differ from those that absorb other carbohydrates. The absorbed fructose travels from the intestine to the liver via GLUT2 transporters and replenishes hepatic glycogen stores depleted during intense physical exercise.
• This results in increasing absorption, constantly and gradually releasing energy.

This is why combining maltodextrin and fructose makes it possible to digest and assimilate a high amount of carbohydrates per hour while minimizing potential gastric problems.
