What is a SPORTS UNIT?

A SPORTS UNIT is a unit of measurement containing exactly 30 g of carbohydrates in a 2:1 ratio. The SPORTS UNIT ensures consistency across our 6d SPORTS SERIES, making it easy to meet individual energy needs during exercise.

Why does 1 SPORTS UNIT contain 30 g of carbohydrates?

During moderate to intensive exercise lasting 1 to 3 hours, an intake of 30 g, 60 g or even 90 g of carbohydrates per hour is generally recommended for optimal performance. Therefore, 1 SPORTS UNIT contains exactly 30 g of carbohydrates, allowing athletes to easily and precisely reach their desired carbohydrate intake. The ideal carbohydrate intake depends on the athlete, their goals and the type of sport they practise.

Why a 2:1 carbohydrate ratio for the SPORTS UNIT?

During exercise, the absorption of glucose from the intestine into the bloodstream is limited to approximately 60-70 g per hour. Adding fructose to glucose can increase total carbohydrate intake to at least 90 g per hour, especially when combined with regular "gut training". A 2:1 CARBOHYDRATE RATIO therefore enables the efficient use of both absorption pathways. In addition, the natural sweetness of fructose in the 2:1 ratio offers the perfect balance between effective energy intake and delicious taste.

What about electrolytes?

Fluids and electrolytes (mainly sodium) are essential for optimal hydration. The more you sweat, the more fluids and electrolytes you need. That is why our sports drinks contain a blend of electrolytes and 400 mg of sodium. By using our sports drinks, you automatically replenish the electrolytes you lose through sweating. Our gels are often used as the sole source of energy during exercise, with water providing the necessary hydration. To support hydration, we have added 200 mg of sodium to our gels. This is not necessary for bars, as they are often used in combination with our sports drinks, which are rich in sodium and electrolytes. However, our bars in "salty" flavours contain 200 mg of sodium and are therefore specifically designed for people who lose a lot of salt and consequently have an increased need for sodium.

Directions for use:

Mix 33 g of powder (= 2 scoops) with 500 ml of water. Drink 500-1000 ml per hour during exercise.
