Losing weight as an athlete... 3 things you should know!
From a sports nutrition perspective, healthy weight loss is approximately 0.5 kg per week, but this becomes more difficult as you reduce your body fat percentage. To achieve this, your average daily calorie intake should be approximately 500 calories lower than your expenditure, while being consistent and fairly strict about what you eat. We do not think you should deprive yourself of food, but rather focus on healthy, whole foods and vegetables.
To calculate your calories
In addition to counting calories, it is also very important to know your macronutrient ratio. This means that your calories matter, but the source of your calories is just as important. For endurance athletes, I would aim for the following: 55% carbohydrates, 25% protein, 20% fat. You can adjust your personal targets by percentage in an app such as MyFitnessPal.
Everyone is a little different, and you need to be aware of how your body responds to changes in calorie intake.
You will therefore need to adjust your approach according to the results.
