What the science says about nitrates

In 2018, the International Olympic Committee consensus on dietary supplements classified nitrates among the few supplements with well-supported benefits, alongside caffeine, creatine, and buffers. Studies link nitrates to a 4 to 25% increase in time to exhaustion, and gains of 1 to 3% in time trials under 40 minutes. These findings apply to nitrates in general, not to any particular brand, and the IOC recommends testing any supplement during training before a competition.

Why choose an extract instead of juice?

The nitrate content of beetroot juice varies depending on the variety and growing conditions. Stamox says its refined extract has had its fiber removed and contains an average of 1.5% nitrates: two tablespoons provide around 300 mg, according to the brand, which also describes its extract as patented.

When should you take Stamox?

Stamox recommends taking it within three hours before exercise: according to the brand, blood nitrate levels peak two to three hours after ingestion.
