A story born from running out of energy
In 1977, Brian Maxwell was among the world’s top marathon runners. He sometimes hit the wall near the end of a race due to a lack of energy. Starting in 1983, he and Jennifer Biddulph experimented in their kitchen to create an easy-to-digest, energy-rich bar made with oat bran, maltodextrins, and milk protein. PowerBar launched in 1986, initially sold in bicycle shops and at races. Nestlé acquired the brand in 2000.
