Citrulline is an amino acid produced by the body. It is also found in food, particularly in cucurbits such as squash, pumpkin, cucumbers, melons, and watermelon.
 
Unlike other amino acids, citrulline is not incorporated into proteins. However, it can be metabolized into another amino acid: arginine. Citrulline therefore indirectly promotes protein synthesis.

Its use is contraindicated in children under 12. Likewise, due to the lack of scientific data, pregnant and breastfeeding women should seek medical advice. Some people may be hypersensitive to citrulline.
