Would you like to know how our diet affects the environment and the well-being of the planet?⁉️
So take the time to read this 😉
Through these publications, the aim is to simplify specific concepts related to nutrition, training, and mental preparation, in order to help all kinds of people feel better and achieve their various sports or health and well-being goals.
But beyond this framework, it is important to raise awareness among as many people as possible about the importance of an appropriate food consumption model, based on an eco-responsible approach to preserving the environment and the planet. 🌎

🔵 EXPLANATIONS 🔵

The budget devoted to food by households in France is one of the largest areas of consumer spending, after housing and transportation expenses.
The vast majority of this food spending takes place in large supermarkets, with only a small portion spent at markets, cooperatives, local shops, or directly from producers.
Price is the primary criterion when choosing food, far ahead of origin, nutritional composition, and especially environmental impact.

➡️ The consequences:

👉 Fewer unprocessed, local, and seasonal products, particularly fruits and vegetables.
👉 More processed products from distant sources, without regard for seasonality.

➡️ The impacts on the environment:

👉 A disrupted seasonality that leads to an imbalance in biodiversity and ecosystems, making it possible to consume tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, eggplants, mangoes, pineapples, and more all year round…
👉 Excessive consumption of refined grain products (rice, pasta, bread…) and animal products (meat, fish, eggs, dairy products), with all the pollution-related consequences of mass production.
👉 More plastic packaging and waste to recycle.
👉 A higher carbon footprint due to long-distance transportation.
👉 A local economy disadvantaged for the benefit of large retailers.

➡️ Solutions:

👉 Respect seasonal availability.
👉 Consume locally whenever possible.
👉 Buy raw and unprocessed products.
👉 Try growing your own vegetable garden.
In practice, how can you improve the way you consume? ⁉️
We can distinguish between 2 categories when it comes to food:

1️⃣First category: raw and minimally processed products

Fresh fruits and vegetables
Dried fruit
Spices and herbs
Seeds (flax, sunflower, pumpkin…)
Nuts (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts…)
Whole grains and similar foods, legumes (brown rice, quinoa, lentils, sourdough bread, buckwheat flakes…)
Quality animal products (meat, fish, eggs, dairy products)
Quality fats (cold-pressed oils)

2️⃣Second category: processed and ultra-processed products

Refined grains (white rice, pasta, white bread…)
Industrial processed meats
Industrial dairy products and cheeses
Industrial fats (butter, margarine…)
Prepared meals, industrial pizzas
Chips, savory snacks
Cakes, cookies, pastries, sweet baked goods…
Dessert yogurt, dessert cream, ice cream…
Chocolate bars
Chocolate spreads
Breakfast cereals
Refined sugars
Sauces
Fruit juices, sodas, energy drinks…
Alcohol, beer…
The objective is simple: to balance the shopping basket in the right direction by prioritizing those in the first category. 👍

➡️ Potential issues:

👉 Lack of time
Indeed, it is an argument, because it can sometimes be difficult to find time in our schedules to shop for groceries and cook, with all the constraints associated with our lifestyles.
But in reality, it is all about priorities and organization, and we can gradually find solutions to achieve this.
The goal is to start gradually in order to change certain habits.
👉 The increased cost
By prioritizing raw and minimally processed foods, and reducing the share of processed and ultra-processed products that provide little or no dietary or health benefits, the budget will balance out.
Eating an organic fruit from a local producer, rich in nutrients, will not have the same impact as eating a supermarket fruit that has been treated with pesticides and suffered a significant loss of its nutritional value.
Consequently, less of it will be needed to achieve a possible equivalent.
But once again, it all comes down to priorities.

🔵 CONCLUSION from our ambassador 🔵

I have no intention of preaching; I do not consider myself an example, and I still have many things to improve to reduce my ecological footprint.
I would like to have my own vegetable garden, favor cycling for everyday travel, avoid chocolate and cocoa, stop traveling by plane, or get involved with an environmental organization…
Little by little in my daily life, and throughout 2022, I will adopt new ways of living that benefit the planet.
I hope to offer some insight into this topic and perhaps make you aware of the importance of changing certain aspects of the way we consume, particularly when it comes to food.
