How to face winter ❄️ by Guillaume Klein

🚨5 tips🚨

👉 To face the winter ❄️

Falling temperatures, the change to standard time, lack of sunlight… many changes directly affect our bodies.
The goal is to focus on prevention through a suitable diet, in order to maintain a resilient immune system and protect against colds, flu, and other winter illnesses.

1️⃣ Boost your Vitamin C intake

This is a water-soluble vitamin that must absolutely be obtained through the diet, since our bodies do not produce it.
Where to find Vitamin C❓
The best dietary sources of Vitamin C are fresh fruits, berries, and vegetables, and contrary to popular belief, citrus fruits such as oranges are not the best sources of Vitamin C; some vegetables and herbs, such as parsley, contain much more.
👉 The main dietary sources: blackcurrants, kiwi, orange, lemon, cabbage, broccoli, green vegetables, peppers, parsley…

2️⃣ Increase your Vitamin D intake

Vitamin D has many functions in our bodies. Among other things, it helps absorb calcium in the intestines to ensure healthy bones, fight infections, and regulate blood sugar levels.
Where to find Vitamin D❓
Approximately 80% of our vitamin D comes from exposure to the sun and approximately 20% from our diet.
We all have a more or less substantial reserve, but as daylight decreases with the change of season, exposure to the sun is insufficient to obtain the necessary amount of vitamin D, so we need to make the right dietary choices.
👉 The main dietary sources: cod liver, oily fish (salmon, trout, tuna, herring, sardines, mackerel).
Supplementation may be recommended with a quality supplement, such as the vitamin D offered by the UNAE laboratory.

3️⃣ Take care of your intestines

The intestines contain numerous neural connections and house a large part of our defense system.
Malnutrition, alcohol, medication, stress… there are many factors that negatively affect our gut health, causing daily damage to and destruction of the intestinal lining. ❌
It is therefore important to maintain a healthy lifestyle and a suitable diet rich in probiotics and prebiotics.
👉 Probiotics are “good bacteria” in our intestines that play a role in vitamin synthesis and increase the absorption of calcium, iron, and magnesium… They also stimulate the body’s defense system and reduce inflammation.
We can find these dietary probiotics in lacto-fermented vegetables such as sauerkraut cabbage; lacto-fermented drinks (kefir, kombucha…); lacto-fermented cheeses and yogurts enriched with “good bacteria” such as bifidus; olives; pickles; brewer’s yeast flakes; miso soup; sourdough bread…
👉 Prebiotics interact with probiotics because they feed and support these different “good bacteria.”
The main dietary sources of prebiotics are bananas, pineapple, grapefruit, artichokes, onions, garlic, shallots, leeks, asparagus, beetroot, broccoli, lentils, chickpeas, kidney beans, honey…

4️⃣ Drink herbal teas

👉 Nettle herbal teas to help reduce fatigue and adapt to temperature changes
👉 Eucalyptus to prevent and combat respiratory infections
👉 Echinacea to stimulate the immune system and increase the body’s resistance
👉 Thyme as a natural antiviral and antibiotic

5️⃣ Make spices a priority

Using spices in our diet is recommended to add flavour to dishes, but also to benefit from the various health properties they can offer.
It is therefore particularly beneficial to incorporate them into our meals during the winter.
▶️ A few examples:
👉 Anti-inflammatory and anti-infective: turmeric, ginger, black pepper
👉 Antiseptic and blood sugar regulation: cinnamon
👉 Supporting the body’s defences: coriander, thyme
👉 Digestive: fennel, ginger, cumin
🔴 Beyond this advice, it is above all the foundation of everyday healthy living (regular physical activity, restorative sleep, good stress management…) that will help optimise fitness and long-term health.
